The majority of games that are played online are coded in a manner that means they can be played on most computer platforms. As a result, anyone who plays a particular game should have an experience that is pretty much the same as anyone else who plays it, regardless of what type of computer they are using. This means that instead of having many smaller, distinct online gaming communities, we now have a single, much larger one.

For those of you that are not aware of the terminology, and without getting too technical, we will over simplify things here in the explanation. Flash and Java Script are programming languages that are universal and can be read by a range of computing systems. So, no matter what computer you are using, the experience you have should be the same.

Before the universal adoption of Flash and Java Script, PC users and Mac users were mostly unable to play against each other in online games. Now, not only can they do so, but they can do on a totally equal playing field, where users of either see, hear and experience exactly what users of the other platform are also seeing, hearing and experiencing.

It is no understatement to say that online gaming, and the Internet as a whole, took a massive step forward as a consequence of those two computing languages. Not only was the gaming world bought closer together, but people really began to sit up and take notice as to what possibilities the Internet held. It was no longer just a method of retrieving and sharing data, it was now becoming more of a multi-media type experience.

Since then, all online gamers have continued to feel the benefits. Online games these days are far above and beyond what could have been imagined a decade ago. With better technology, faster Internet connections, and better programming and coding, gamers these days can play games with movie like graphics against 20+ players simultaneously.

And it is online gamers that have benefited as much as, if not more than, anyone else. The millions of people that now use the Internet to play online games have created a huge market that game producers all want a part of. For those that make the best games, there are millions of dollars to be earned, and that prize has led to fierce competition. The result? Bigger and better games, and a better online gaming experience!

In short, the R4 DS is a flash card for the Nintendo DS that allows you to play hundreds of free home brew game and home brew application on your NDS… on your Nintendo DS console. For less than dollars, your Nintendo DS turns into a whole entertainment unit.00

There are some quick and easy tips to follow. Some of the things I recommend may seem like no brainers, it did actually take me a week or so of using the R4 DS Card daily to figure out how to make my life a whole lot easier.

1. Store your game files in a directory on your microSD Card. Make a folder called games, and ONLY store your games in this folder. It makes navigating the menu much easier, and all of your save game files will also be origanized by default.

2. Try to orignize your MP3 files as well as Video files by creating a seperate directory for each one of them on the microSD memory card. This is a MUST for anyone that has lots of music, with all of the track names labelled TRACK 1.mp3, TRACK 2.MP3, and others, etc….. By putting your files in seperate and different directories, you’ll at least have them organized because you can put all of your MP3 albums in individual directories so you’ll at least know that TRACK-1.MP3 in the TIESTO directory is from the newest and latest Tiesto album.

3. Make sure you try and make a copy of all of your game saves on your hard drive at least 1-2 times a week. Saving your games isn’t something to do because you worry about losing your game saves due to a bad microSD card. It is a guarantee agaist that, but it also means you can always go back to an earlier game save. It’s also good to get into this habit because you may erase a game (and its save game file) and not have a backup in case you want to play that game once again sometime in the future. While this one really seems like an obvious hint, you would be surprised to know that most of our technical support emails for the R4 DS deal with how to get back erased or deleted game saves that were not backed up. If you play games more often, you should definitely do this at least once per week or more often.

4. Don’t take out the R4 DS from the Nintendo DS console each time you want to add files to the microSD Card. Just push the microSD card and it will pop of out the slot in the r4 ds card. Use the included microSD card reader / writer to change your games, music and movie files or add more to your collection on your microSD card.

5. This is my final (and quite possibly the most obvious) tip. And it works with the microSD card in your R4 DS Card. When you put the NDS, Nintendo DS lite or Nintendo DSi in your pocket or pick it up. Check to make sure that the microSD card is in the R4 DS card. Make sure that the microSD card is in the card slot of the R4DS and it’s not loose or ready to pop out. While there are failsafes to protect you against the microSD from popping out the microSD card accidentally, it could happen. There would be nothing that could be more of a problem that not knowing where your microSD Card is. MicroSD Cards are small and tiny, and once lost, you would have a hard time finding it anywhere else except at a store, where you’d be buying a new one. I suggest always carrying your NDS in a case to make sure you do not lose your R4 DS card. A case makes it much less likely that you’re r4 ds card will get lost. You should make sure to that this is something you do before you even turn it on.

The r4 DS allows you to power up your NDS by allowing you to run homebrew game and applications as well as watch movies, read ebooks, and more. It lets you watch movies on your NDS, DS Lite and DSi as well as play MP3 Music. The r4 DS turns your Nintendo DS or i into a full blown hand held multimedia system.
